Business Essentials: Lower My Anxiety: Calming During the Coronavirus Situation
Guest Speaker: Lawrence Feinstein, PhD
Title: Clinical and Health Psychologist
Dr. Feinstein is a licensed clinical and health psychologist and leads a group practice in Redwood City. He received his PhD in health psychology from UCLA in 1988. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Feinstein served as an SVP of Product Development at United Behavioral Health (Optum, United Healthcare) where he improved corporate programs to manage depression and other conditions, and as a Solutions Director at FICO where he led the effort to use advanced analytics to create a Medication Adherence risk score that predicts non-adherence when patients receive a new prescription. Currently, he sees a full schedule of patients, mostly seniors and couples, and is CEO of CaseKeepers, Inc., that offers an electronic journal application for healthcare providers and lawyers, and their clients, that enable them to collaborate via the internet.
The presentation will first explain the main causes of anxiety – Uncertainty, Anticipation of Negative Consequences, and Disruption of Daily Routine – and how these are perceived and amplified during the Coronavirus situation. Second, the presentation will offer six strong suggestions for reducing anxiety (for example, limiting cable news, building a new daily routine, and using technology to maintain social support), increasing resilience, and managing reactions to what cannot be changed. Q&A will follow so attendees can share specific challenges.
